C ride report - Stuart Murray
With the weather forecast being somewhat damp, I was surprised (or was I disappointed!) to find 4 little ducks waiting and eager to venture forth.
Or, as the childrens song goes
“Five little ducks went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said, "Quack, quack, quack, quack"
But only four little ducks came back ”.
I know ducks normally paddle but these wanted to pedal!
There ducks were Mickduck, Sueduck, Cateduck (a new rider to C group) Yvonneduck and I took the role of Motherduck.
The planned ride was to Bashall Barn but due to the inclement weather it was quickly decided a shorter ride to Whitechapel/Inglewhite was agreed upon. The plan fitted in with making a visit to the new “Lookout” cafe on the Longridge road. It also fitted in well with this particular duck's route home!
With the rain settling in and possibly to comply with the song's 1st verse Sue decided to cut the ride even shorter and peeled off back home to dry out.
The four other ducks without many pauses paddled (sorry pedaled) on regardless of the now persistent rain through Whitechapel and arrived, very wet, at the cafe.
We were made very welcome both by the cafe and Peter B who came to see how wet we were. The owner and his son have been active cyclists in the recent past and we spent a long time eating and drying out. The cafe, I'm sure, will feature as a regular stopping off point for many GCC rides (especially figure of eight routes).
Our route back towards Garstang took in some less frequented lanes and the chance for Yvonne to revisit a ford she remembers well!
Shortly afterwards with thanks for everyone's company this particular
Mother duck said, "Quack, quack, quack, quack"
the three remaining little ducks went back to Garstang”
Thanks everyone. See you next week when Bob is RC to Great Eccleston – I hope its drier!
