B1 Ride Report Kirkby Longsdale - Peter Heyworth
Well its been a while since I have ridden with the club, pre pandemic which feels like a lifetime. So I dusted of the road bike and headed for the cobbles only to find that the road bike was having mechanical problems. A great start but soon sorted as Pedro has a stable full of bikes so with permission from the RC I would play catch up on the Caton road. We soon reunited just before Caton and I was surprised at the size of the group , the B1 had almost gone into extinction a few years ago but it appears they had multiplied. So at the 2nd meet point was Steve Danson,, Jane Stringfellow, Chris Berry, Keith Norris, Trevor Ford, Shane Blackmore, Phil Morgan , RC Karen Scienkiwicz and recently promoted to the B1s Ian Pickles (apologies if I messed anyone). The route twined up and down the lune to Kirby Lonsdale to the café.
Ian Tunbridge joined the group outside the café to join the group on the return route home. With a tail wind and bellies full of cake the pace soon quickened once the café legs had gone. The group started to disperse coming into Lancaster as folks headed for home. Someone suggested a beer at the Pattern Arms which is always fatal as we were now wasting valuable drinking time.
In reflection I can see why the B1s have grown in number, very social and friendly group, I was really impressed with the whole groups pace, some really strong riders, distance was between 60 to 80 miles and the pace was 16mph+, which over that terrain is very respectable. Well done RC ‘K woman’ who did a fantastic job of herding of the kittens (OK me) .
