B2 100 Mile Challenge by Shane Blackmore
B2 Ride 31B Settle 100mile Challenge
Elevation: + 4838 / - 4826 ft
Moving Time: 07:08:16
Average speed 14.1 mph
Eleven of us B1 and B2 riders left the cobbles on a breezy and wet morning and headed towards Lancaster picking up John Keohane on the way. and on to High Bentham as the heavens opened the and six of us decided it was time for a brew in the hope of it been a little drier when we left the cafe. The B1’s decided it was too earlier for a cafe stop and carried on.
While we enjoyed our brews it seemed to have brighten up outside.
No sooner had we left the café the rain started again and continued until we arrived in Settle.
We decided to continue on and not stop in Settle and planned another café stop further along the route.
Heading for Wigglesworth and onto Hellifield road Ian Gibson's navigation kept going astray as he wanted to go left multiple times we managed to keep him going straight until we needed to turn left.
Sec left us at 60 miles to make his own way back down to five.
We finally stopped at a Café near Downham the views where wonderful although £3.00 for a small cup of chips was a little on the steep side.
We then headed to Clitheroe, Whalley and onto Billington the wind had caused us problems throughout the day but as we headed east in to a strong headwind it became even more of a challenge until we turned North after Broughton and the last eight miles back to Garstang.
Sarah – Jane and Ian Gibson left us after Catterall, Myself and Steve Hopkinson said goodbye to David Hodgson and made our way back to the cars.
A very challenging yet enjoyable day with great company.
