B RIDE TO KIRKBY LONSDALE - Martin Oglesby
B RIDE TO KIRKBY LONSDALE
The usual 09h30 start from the cobbles was slightly delayed due to Shane B noticing a flat rear tyre before we started moving.
Only seven or eight minutes later, eleven riders set off up the A6 for a change until we reached the turn into Hollins Ln. As promised, Martin S + Jane were waiting for us at Five Lane Ends and we rode smoothly on to Caton where Mickey R departed as planned. We then picked up a guest rider (again! - time you coughed up for membership - Rod Carter) at Brookhouse.
To allow frustrated motorists to overtake, the group fragmented to leave gaps on the relatively busy road to Kirkby Lonsdale.
The cafe stop was at Lunesdale Bakery where we re-fuelled with generous portions of tasty food served up very efficiently. Highly recommended.
The return route took us over rolling terrain to Burton and then south to cross the Lune again at Caton, where Shane departed for Morecambe.
Passing the University via Hazelrigg Ln and into Galgate we returned to Five Lane Ends, where the group split with Martin, Jane (and Ian G?) opting to re-hydrate at the Fleece (sensible). The official route returned to Garstang via Cleveley Bank and Scorton.
Another great ride in good company and perfect weather.
