A Ride - Silverdale - Steve Kelly
A ride report for 29 June, also the “A” ride report. You get the idea. About 6 of us set out from the cobbles in weather that was just right with little wind and not too hot. The usual haul out to Quernmore but with a dart over Littledale to spice up the day. Mark and Neil, new to the A group, displayed commendable enthusiasm for the climb accompanied by Souper Mario who returned from the dark side without his partner in crime, young Pedro. Your RC huffed his way up and slowed within 100 metres of the top to arrive breathing easily (you know, I could have tried harder but it was a matter of dignity). A fast descent to Brookhouse followed where we picked up Steve M. A loose chainy took us to Hornby and across the river to the top road to Kirkby Lonsdale. Paul B led the charge to KL but abandoned due to excessive phlegm (I think that was the diagnosis) and headed back with Steve M. Which left 5 of us to plough on over Hutton Roof to Burton in Lonsdale. Souper broke the wind for us all the way to Milinthorpe, it would have been a shame to have denied him the privilege! Which took us on to Arnside and what was the Heron cafe, now rather grandly titled the Arnside bistro. The menu did not specify beans on toast and we were close to moving on when it transpired that this delicacy was indeed available. Wheewww
We came back through Silverdale and Carnforth with most taking a turn on the front. On through Lancaster where we dropped Mark off near home, leaving 4 for a speedy chaingang back to Garstang. We averaged about 17.2 for the 75 miles and kudos to Souper who went on to do over 100 at closer to 18 mph (animal).
