B1 Ride to Rivington by Steve (Sec) Berry
11 riders set off from Tesco`s car park, Worden Park out of commission for festival day. Should have been 12 as we discovered later but Luke was doing some last minute shopping and missed the start.
A somewhat hilly 31 miles was completed before reaching the Village Tea Room in Rivington. An extra little loop had been added to the route this year to better appreciate a full `Tour of the Reservoirs`. This includes the climb of Anglezarke at 15% plus initially, which one of the group climbed in the big ring. Impressive enough made more so by having to start the climb on a 90 degree bend, ie no run up. The new loop continues to White Coppice, Heapey Station, Chorley, Limbrick and The Street. By this time we were 12 as Luke had joined us at the top of Belmont Road.
After a mostly cloudy but still warm morning, the second part of the ride was in full sun. Some might say it was hot. After a few twists and turns we soon reached Croston and Bretherton and eventually the Festival goers on Worden Lane. Never noticed before how bad the road surface is on Worden Lane.
57 miles at an OK pace on a lovely day.
Thanks for coming.
Lessons learned today.:
1) Best to avoid festival day.
2) Find an extra 3 miles for a genuine 60 miler, just sounds better, and ...
3)Do your shopping on a Friday.
