B2 Ride to Settle by Phil Durrigan
Park N Ride from Dunsop
Three of us convened at Dunsop Bridge in still, slightly overcast conditions, being Shane, Steve H and myself (NB: parking now £2.10).
This is a tough start to a ride and we were soon climbing on cold legs through Newton and Slaidburn with plenty more undulations to Tosside. I don't think a word passed between us during those first ten miles as we struggled to get our second wind.
The terrain eased a little as we headed along the blissful, traffic-free lanes through the tiny hamlets of Wham and Rome (no chance of getting lost here as all roads [even gated ones] lead etc...The views along this stretch are normally quite spectacular with Ingleborough straight ahead and Fountains Fell to the right but today were a little hazy but still quite awesome.
After a brew stop in Settle a head wind greeted us as we approached Wigglesworth soon followed by a heavy shower. We soon dried off however with a long downhill blast into Bolton-by-Bowland.
From here it was a steady grind through Grindleton, West Bradford and Waddington before turning for Bashall Eaves and Cow Ark. A final thrash down the steep drop to Whitewell saw us back to Dunsop Bridge.
A great day out and thanks to Shane and Steve for their company.
